		<description>Great suggestion. Obviously it depends on what effect you&#039;re trying to create, there&#039;s hundreds of methods to achieve the same effect though, and I like working with Layer Mask or Quickmask. The alpha channels is a good idea as well though just as easy as layer masks.

		<description>Emmmm... I would be 1000% esier to do it by using LensBlur ;) I do such effects from long years using it. Trust me... the final effect is much better, and you can add bokeh too - like in normal lens ;) 
All you have to do, is to create plane alpha channel - whiter means more lured, darker more sharp etc. Then just select layer that you want to blur, select Filters-&gt;Blur&gt;Lens BLur, select correct alpha channel and voila ;D

The choice is yourse ;)
